About Friendly Isles Wood Carving

Master Carver Tavita has over 50 years of carving experience. He only passes his knowledge down to his family. His nephew is currently apprenticing and building his skills to carry on the tradition.  Over the years, Friendly Isles has carved many of our recognized wood works for the rich and the famous. We continue to strive to create inspirational, original works of art.

Tavita carves in the beautiful town of Kihei. Our location changes, so call ahead if you want to meet in person - we'd love to see you! Visitors and kama'aina (locals) are all welcome!  (See our Carvings)

Tiki
The Mysteries and Art Form!
Wood carvings of Hawaiian folklore and mythology are legendarily known as Tikis. In the days of my ancestors they were carved for good luck, protection, fertility, abundance, strength, power, love, and other strong family (ohana) values. These Tikis represents the history of an ola (life) presence through time for the ohana (families) of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Each Tiki carved by Friendly Isles Wood Carving  is sent to you with our special blessings.
